FEAST / DREAM: A Film and Food Event curated by Kelly Sears
April 21st, 2012 - April 21st, 2012
The Galveston Artist Residency (GAR) is pleased to announce FEAST/DREAM: an experiential art event in three parts. One part tasting, one part film viewing and one part subconscious adventure, curated by current GAR artist in residence, Kelly Sears. The event will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2012 with food tasting beginning at 7:30pm and the film screening beginning at 8:30pm.
In FEAST/DREAM, Filmmaker Kelly Sears brings the audience a fully sensory event aimed at tapping into our subconscious thought and investigating the landscape of our dreams. Sears will present a program of short films by Lauren Wolkenstein and Christopher Radcliff, Rodney Ascher, Zander Marro, Tom Brandt, Julia Pott, Stacey Steers, Daniel Marinico and Calvin Lee Reeder. Chef Benjy Mason and bartender Jeremy Olivier have created a spread of dishes and herbal elixirs designed to enhance the film experience by stimulating the senses and, according to folklore, invoke bizarre and vivid dreams.
During FEAST/DREAM, attendees will communally feast on food and films, hopefully fostering an environment that will enable the audience to collectively dream. It is our hope that the experience extends beyond the time and space of the event at the Galveston Artist Residency where visions may follow the audience home and play out while they sleep.
In the morning, Galveston Artist Residency will be ready to collect accounts of dreams submitted anonymously from attendees and will archive these experiences on their website.
Benjy Mason is an Enthusiast and Chef in Houston TX. He began his career at Feast Houston where he worked his way up to Sous Chef before becoming the Executive Chef at Down House Restaurant in the Heights. For this project, Mason has joined forces with Jeremy Olivier, bartender at Down House.
