NEW FUNDING LEVELS
The Idea Fund will now provide up to 12 cash awards at three distinct levels: Spark ($1,000), Catalyst ($4,000), and Stimulus ($7,000).
Since The Idea Fund’s inception in 2008, the program has provided direct support for 60 innovative arts projects involving more than 350 artists from across Texas. Given the strength and number of past applications from the Houston and Gulf Coast areas, and the ability of the three partner organizations to provide mentorship to funded artists, The Idea Fund is returning to its original geographic scope of the greater Houston metropolitan area. The lead artist of a proposed project must reside in one of the following counties: Harris, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Waller, Chambers, Liberty, or Montgomery. The Idea Fund will support individual artists, curators, collectives, collaboratives, or partnerships.
THE IDEA FUND ROUND 7 JURORS:
Ben Davis, Writer, Critic, and Executive Editor, Blouin Artinfo
Ruth Estevez, Gallery Director and Curator, REDCAT, Los Angeles
Carrie Schneider, Houston-based artist and 2012 Idea Fund Recipient
The Idea Fund is the second re-granting initiative of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, following the pilot program, Alternative Exposure, administrated by Southern Exposure in San Francisco, CA. It is structured to provide artists with quick access to substantial financial support for projects that might not otherwise have access to funding.
