The First Year

The Galveston Artist Residency is proud to present The First Year, a culmination of work by our first year artists in residence, Nick Barbee, Nsenga Knight and Kelly Sears.  Selections of work by the three artists will be up in two locations, the Galveston Arts Center and the Galveston Artist Residency Gallery from July 14th through August 19th 2012.  

In this exhibition, Nick Barbee will be showing a series of small sculptures and paintings that explore formal concerns of presentation, the history of abstraction and historic narrative.  Nsenga Knight will create a site-specific drawing directly on GAC’s wall as well as an installation of photographs, which invite the viewers to investigate subtle shifts which place emphasis on the camera and the artist as performer. Kelly Sears will be presenting two short animated films which draw on experimental, documentary and narrative practices and feature both analog and digital animation techniques.
